Climate-Smart Livelihoods for Resilient Communities
Addressing growing climate vulnerability in Chatra Gram Panchayat — supporting around 30 vulnerable farmers directly and 30–35 more through peer learning, while strengthening safe drinking water access for approximately 1,300 people through climate-smart agriculture, diversified cropping, and community water governance. ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────── The project addresses the growing climate vulnerability in Chatra Gram Panchayat, where recurrent flooding, prolonged waterlogging, and declining soil health are disrupting agriculture, reducing incomes, and increasing livelihood risks for farming households. The supports around 30 vulnerable farmers directly, with an additional 30-35 farmers benefiting through peer learning, while strengthening safe drinking water access for approximately 1300 people across the whole Chatra Gram Panchayat. The project promotes climate-smart agriculture, diversified cropping, and bio-input-based practices through training, demonstration plots, and exposure visits. It also strengthens community-based water governance by protecting the Rasui reservoir and supporting O&M systems, while enhancing market linkages, institutional convergence, and environmental awareness to build long-term livelihood and climate resilience. A key component of the project is the continued strengthening of the Town-Twinning (TT) partnership between Chatra Gram Panchayat and Herrsching am Ammersee (Germany). Through regular school exchanges, community interactions, and joint environmental awareness initiatives, the project fosters cross-cultural learning, shared responsibility for sustainable development, and global-local collaboration.
