Green Panchayat for Sustainable Development
A 3-year initiative establishing community-managed safe drinking water access through a near-natural water treatment plant — with uninterrupted supply maintained even during floods, directly benefiting over 1,500 children and adults and fostering global town-twinning partnerships. ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────── KTfHD worked on this project from 1st July 2024. The project established safe drinking water access for vulnerable communities through a community-managed water treatment plant, while strengthening environmental awareness and promoting bio-sustainable practices. Project Impact Snapshot ★Safe drinking water access established through a community-managed water treatment plant. ★Uninterrupted water supply maintained even during floods and heavy monsoon, reducing water-borne disease risks. ★Local capacity built with trained staff and community volunteers managing operations and maintenance. ★Awareness sessions conducted on hygiene, environmental sustainability, and bio-sustainable practices. ★2 Education Support Centres directly benefited around 60 children in learning growth and school retention. ★Town-twinning partnerships strengthened between Herrsching am Ammersee( Germany) and Chatra Gram Panchayat (West Bengal, India) at the Gram Panchayat and block levels, promoting global knowledge exchange and school partnerships. ★Community volunteer group formed and trained to ensure long-term sustainability and ownership. ★Over 1500 children and adults were reached directly through integrated interventions.

Climate Smart and Sustainable Water Resource for Vulnerable Communities
In association with adelphi Research gGmbH as technical partner, this project strengthened the main water reservoir of a near-natural surface water-based drinking water treatment plant — directly benefiting approximately 300 children and 1,000 adults, demonstrating strong adaptive capacity in the face of the 2024 West Bengal floods. ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────── In association with adelphi Research gGmbH as technical partner, this project focused on strengthening the main water reservoir (a natural surface water pond) of the near-natural surface water-based drinking water treatment plant through bund reinforcement and protective fencing to ensure long-term water quality and sustainability. The intervention enhanced access to safe drinking water for surrounding communities while promoting climate-resilient water resource management. Despite severe challenges, including unprecedented monsoon conditions and the 2024 West Bengal floods that damaged a portion of the infrastructure, the project demonstrated strong adaptive capacity. Detailed assessments and redesign measures led to the integration of more resilient and sustainable structural solutions, ensuring improved long-term durability. With reinitiated efforts and an extended implementation timeline, the project has strengthened both physical infrastructure and community preparedness for climate-related risks. Overall, the intervention has directly benefited approximately 300 children and 1000 adults by improving access to safe and sustainable water resources, while laying a robust foundation for continued resilience and community-led management. Impact Highlights ★Reservoir protection strengthened through bund reinforcement and protective fencing. ★Climate-resilient design integrated following flood damage and technical reassessment. ★Adaptive project management demonstrated in response to 2024 monsoon and flood impacts. ★Improved access to safe drinking water for surrounding communities. ★Over 300 children and adults benefited directly. ★Enhanced long-term sustainability and resilience of water resource systems.
